Even though Gemmell has played several roles in her acting career, more so detective characters, she said the roles are nothing compared to Lady Violet Bridgeton. "I feel like up to the age I am now I’ve been cast as detectives, murderers or bad mothers - but now I get to play a character who's a lovely woman and an even lovelier mom!" she said.

Gemmell's real life is far from the life of Lady Bridgerton. The actress was married to Ray Stevenson, but their marriage didn't stand the test of time. The two met on the set of the drama series, "Band of Gold," in which they costarred with Lena Headey and Ace Bhatti.
